The Gramophone Revealed: Antique Views on a "Talking Machine"

In this day and age, we are ready always to learn from new sources of information, including ways to make music happen for us on a private basis. Now well over a century old, methods of collecting information specifically to be played back have become rather sophisticated.
Here's some music to help us remember some old ways of listening to tunes in one's own home.........

What happened to the old Phonograph, anyway? Since many of our readers were kids, technology has brought into every household quite a wide range of devices, from the more modern turntables to 8 Track and cassette decks, to our disc drives and now the iPod. What will happen next is anyone's guess. But it is a fascinating experience watching such changes occur.
Meanwhile, there's art to be made. :)
Happy Creativity, everybody!
Rose

Thank you Rose for your lovely comment. it means alot to me when others enjoy what I create.
Now this piece I will sink my teeth into, tons of ideas. My grandparents had one, the modern phono too but this one was a favorite to get out and they played opera on Saturday nights.
Neither one of them could sing but they sure tried !

oh, I remember the "phonograph"..my parents had the one in the huge cabinet. Then we had the smaller one..then the "record player" in the "suitcase!! 8 track came out..better than sliced bread!! But,even with cd's,ipods..there's nothing like the sound of the Big Bands and the Stones on vinyl!!!!! Some artists are now recording again on vinyl..yay!!!!

They Are???? I hadn't heard. What a curious world this is. We think we're all done with our past ways to make art sing for us, and the artists decide otherwise.
I enjoy it all. Except for 8 tracks. i never could cotton to those. Guess we were too into vinyl for so long that cassettes took over before I could try.
It's fun to reminisce......
