Feather Your Nest with This New Spring Set

Mix and match as you play with my newest original set!

This all began as a new way to play with the alphabet. If enough people seem interested, I might end up by making a separate set of Egg numerals and punctuation marks. Please let me know what you think by leaving me a comment about it.

This project all began last winter with a desire to refresh our spirits with a few spring-like things to play with during the final weeks of the winter. Some of the things shown below had to be thought about or reworked over the past two or so months. I hope my time and thought have been worth it.

My Egg Alphabet began with a few wild bird egg images, then gradually became the more cohesive, matching set shown below. It was a labor of love with learning every single step of the way. I had to change the entire thing 3 different ways before it would satisfy me LOL. But that's the way of these things, and it is more fun for me to continue learning with each new project, anyhow.

Once the Egg Alphabet was finally complete, I chose two colors to add along with a number of fun, playful accessories. The theme of birds and eggs and spring is so delightful that I may find myself inclined to play with it a second time very soon.

The distressed polka dot pattern is my own, while the lacy pattern belongs to www.obsidiandawn.com. Please see the rules for use of their designs by visiting their website.

There are sure to be more fun things offered to work well enough with this new, big Bird Set in the near future. You see, I keep having new ideas! Hopefully by the weekend, there will be more.

You will note how the very fist thing to be shown below is my Egg Alphabet. Children might have fun playing with those on a card for someone special. My thoughts turn to a few themes for you to choose from, namely springtime and any special days connected with it, birthdays, or even a Mother's Day card might be nice.

I hope that you will find something here which can be used in a little gift giving or greeting card design. The pockets are perhaps a bit big for most cards, but they could work very nicely in other types of creative play, including most Book Arts projects.

In the Pink with PPS

One Background plus Matching Accessories

Everything from collage to gift card making and Artist Trading Cards may be made using this new 5 item set. This started with Photoshop and my own design ideas. You see, I was in the mood to be "in the pink"! 

Please read all credits and red letter Guidelines in this post. Thank you.

First up below is the Collage Background. This has 1/4 inch borders, by the way. I normally tend to use 1/2 inch borders instead, but I wanted you to be able to play with as much color as possible this time. White card stock might be a wise paper choice. This works with most home printers.

Next, there is a page of nothing but Tags cut from the same background. These 3 tags might be printed onto card stock, or else glued onto the card of your choice.

Then there is a set of cute pockets, all in the same pattern. these have a few accessories in with them. I thought these would be fun for card making and journaling, although your ideas might say otherwise. There are 2 more smaller tags in with the pockets, too.

Next in line is the ATC card and matching envelope set with a few collage bits to use. The envelope design is by my favorite free template resource, Mirkwood Designs. The templates there may be had for free, although never, ever sold out of fairness to the person who is allowing us to use them + her instructions for free. Thank you again, Ruth Zarnoff! A link to her website full of wonderful things is HERE. 

The final item is yet another Ruth Zarnoff Design from the same website mentioned in that last paragraph. It is a cute little Bonbon gift box. This would be best printed onto white card stock as well. The margins for this item are 1/4 inch as well, so be sure to check your computer settings first.

Free Paper Doll Party Card or Invitation

Why not have a Paper Doll Party?

UPDATE: This is the NEWER, much improved version. It has cleaner lines, a lot more lace, and the top looks more refined to me. Have fun decorating this fan your own way!

It occurred to me the other afternoon, while on a break, that there already has been for some while a stock of several fans available for free here at the Studio's blog.

The Idea
Then an even happier thought struck my brain: Why not make a Fan Invitation or Card for Victoria's fans (so to speak)? I have been finishing slight upgrades for several days, including making the doll look a little bit better. This was then followed by a set of 5 different hair color choices, so guests could begin choosing.

More outfits have been added recently, including a new favorite of mine, the Geography Lesson outfit. Believe me, this was a labor of love. I really do enjoy history, including what people wore once upon a time.

The Details
The flowered border at the top is from an old illustration of  forget-me-not flowers. The tiny mother-of-pearl buttons which border the soft central oval frame are from my own collection. I believe that they are either blouse or sleeve buttons. They may have been used on a child's outfit once. (It's actually one button which I duplicated once for a different project, but never mind all of that now! LOL)

All brushes used to embellish this fan are from brusheezy.com (as I recall), and are designed by obsidiandawn.com.


So without further ado, here is that Paper Doll Party Fan Card/Invitation. I suppose it also might be fun to use as an ornamental object of some sort.

Fan Card--Summer of Color 5: 2 Pinks 1 Orange

Pink and Orange Fan Invitation Card

Printables can really make playtime and party times more fun. We've created fans here before in different color ways, one of them in the Steampunk theme. 

This time around, we've used the SOC5 prompt of 2 Pinks 1 Orange. We do hope you'll really have fun and play around with adding details of your own by using rubber stamp letters, Glimmer Mist, glitter, gel pens, etc.

Steampunk Style Fan Invitation/Ornament

Today's post is all about gears and bolts and Victorian style mixed together with a fan's design.
I've taken the previously shown holiday fan and changed out its shape, narrowing it so that more sections may be joined together, creating a variety of possibilities for you.
I've also left the message frames blank, so that you can add your own hand lettering or rubber stamped letters, expressing your own choice of sentiment, such as "Happy Birthday" or "It's a Tea Party!" or, as illustrated below, "Steampunk Tea Party," even.
This has been made to accompany a brand new set of travels for our Steam Tea Travels sister blog. This time, we are heading for Cairo, Egypt where adventures abound!
Each sheet contains 18 fan sections, more than enough to create a variety of expressions.
I suppose you could also take your original down to your local copy center or extension and enlarge this one. And, as it was produced at 300dpi, it should look okay, provided you don't go overboard with the enlarging.  
There is a lot of fussy cutting involved in this project, I know, but it will have a lot of character at the end for all the work involved.
But. If you would rather keep it stylish and simpler, you could always simply cut the base gear bits away as you go, making a refined circle.
I'd like to recommend using card stock for this project, along with a fetching grommet for the holes, or a bit of thin metallic braid. A bit of metallic super fine glitter might also go over well with your guests.
The 4:00 teatime could also be covered over with a different clock face with hands set for a different time (before you head for your copy center might be best here), but I'm awfully fond of my regular teatime, and thought it would be fun to include the teatime clock in this design.
No matter where we may roam during our Steam Tea Travels, for example, there is always time for a cup of tea at around 4:00 in the afternoon (or, 16:00 for our friends in the EU).  :)

Antique Happy Birthday Bicycle Postcard

Today's offering is a front side-only image of a young boy riding a colorfully decorated bicycle. It's a Happy Birthday greeting card with a lot of charm, one we've held back on posting for a while. The truth is, we would normally have posted both sides of this card, except the reverse is pretty blah, with no redeeming value as far as looks go. It's even a bit too damaged to clean up for you.
But its front is certainly a different story!
We truly love every bright feature of this little boy's cheering message, right down to his polka dotted uniform.
He looks like he could be riding in a his home town May Day parade, doesn't he? Too charming to be missed out on!
One more feature of note: We are offering this card at a slightly higher resolution than our usual 300dpi. This one was actually scanned in at a resolution of 400dpi, a factor we hope to enlarge on in our future scannings for you. 
We ask that you will please credit us wherever applicable with having supplied our time and effort, along with any of the Studio's private ephemera collection, by mentioning us in your posts and/or in the written materials lists for any art made using our stock. And Thank You!

ATC Originals Family Fun Sunday: Turn Victorian Frames Into Pretty Cards!

This was such a fun project! It's been such a learning experience for me especially! And I've so much left to learn---funny how trying one's hand at creating new projects in PDF format, etc., can really show where more learning is required! For me, this was just further proof that that learning can truly be fun.

There are Instructions to be had with this project. Simply follow the links to the Printable PDFs for all of the details.
Possible variations on this theme might include faces of important family members, grandkids, and so on, one to each "frame," or only one frame on the top facing fold, with messages and artwork added through all of the folds instead of more frames. I'd like to suggest cardstock or some equally heavy paper for the envelope, but if your printer tends to get overly fussy over heavy weight paper, there's always lamination.
You could print this on a soft pastel or white paper, then laminate it firmly with some great adhesive such as Yes Paste or Matte Gel Medium. I'd like to recommend, for best results, taking your print-offs to your local copy center, where they hopefully will have toner-based color copy machines. Otherwise, any inkjet pigment from your home printer could smear, as it is water soluble. Once this is accomplished, or if you have other means for keeping components hooked together, you'll be ready for the next step, which is to let the assembled portions dry, maybe even overnight, depending upon your local climate, and then to cut around the edges of the printable envelope to get the right shape and size.

Finally, refer to the Instructions for where to score and fold. it's that easy
You may need to experiment with the folding thickness. As some of us do enjoy layering many times over when adding to our work (I know that I surely do!),  accordion folded cards may take up enough room to bulge or even tear the Pouch Envelope provided. My best advice is to simply play with paper, several different kinds, if possible, before making your final choice.

I'd like to think of this as a fun card for kids to make for their grandparents and other loved ones. It's up to readers to decide how they want their cards to look.  So, whether you choose this project for the Templates or for the Frames print-off sheet, or for both, the possibilities are endless!
