In the Pink with PPS

One Background plus Matching Accessories

Everything from collage to gift card making and Artist Trading Cards may be made using this new 5 item set. This started with Photoshop and my own design ideas. You see, I was in the mood to be "in the pink"!

First up below is the Collage Background. This has 1/4 inch borders, by the way. I normally tend to use 1/2 inch borders instead, but I wanted you to be able to play with as much color as possible this time. White card stock might be a wise paper choice. This works with most home printers.

Next, there is a page of nothing but Tags cut from the same background. These 3 tags might be printed onto card stock, or else glued onto the card of your choice.

Then there is a set of cute pockets, all in the same pattern. these have a few accessories in with them. I thought these would be fun for card making and journaling, although your ideas might say otherwise. There are 2 more smaller tags in with the pockets, too.

Next in line is the ATC card and matching envelope set with a few collage bits to use. The envelope design is by my favorite free template resource, Mirkwood Designs. The templates there may be had for free, although never, ever sold out of fairness to the person who is allowing us to use them + her instructions for free. Thank you again, Ruth Zarnoff! The final item is yet another Ruth Zarnoff Design from the same website mentioned in that last paragraph. It is a cute little Bonbon gift box. This would be best printed onto white card stock as well. The margins for this item are 1/4 inch as well, so be sure to check your computer settings first.

Free Anne of Green Gables Ephemera

Today is the anniversary of the birth of the author of the Anne of Green Gables series of books, Lucy Maud Montgomery.

Having read nearly every one of the Anne series of books, I know that I have always been a big fan of Montgomery's work. Her understanding of the ways girls think and feel was well ahead of its time. She had insight to offer in each and every chapter that she wrote about Anne, her "bosom friend," Diana Berry, and (of course) Anne's very own Gilbert.

In honor of the heroine of the books, I am calling her Anne with an "e".

(Yes, even the Museum photo of Anne's pretty little room is in the Public Domain) The sheet music cover and the two old photos are from the 1919 silent motion picture version of Anne's story. That, I suppose, would account for the costumes being a little too modern for Anne's actual era. I still thought they might be fun to use , and so they were included in the set.

Coloring Page: "I Am Perfectly Content."

The King's daughter finds a contented young man to be her prince.

There is a fragment of the story for this coloring page. It was so quaintly romantic and old fashioned, I simply had to include it.


The story reads as follows:

[Text Appearing Before Image:]

"...green trees and the greener fields, in that dainty little cloud fleck-ing heavens blue up yonder like a bit of foam on a sunlit sea? Oh, no! I am rich enough, for all nature is mine—"

"And I am yours," said a sweet young voice.

The man looked up in surprise, and there before him, holding out her pretty hands toward him, stood the Princess Madge, who had slipped into the cell unnoticed. 

The man sprang to his feet, clasped the little hands in his, and said: I know not what you mean, sweet lady, when you say that you are mine; but oh, you are passing beautiful!" 

"Papa," called the princess, "this is quite dreadful. Quick, take off that ugly soldiers coat and tell him who we are and all about it!"

The king, starting as if from a dream, threw off the rough coat and hat and stepped forth into the beam of sunlight, resplendent in gold and ermine. "Thou dost not know me, my man? I am the king. Hast thou not read our last proclamation?"

"No, your Majesty; I never do read proclamations."

[Text Appearing After Image:]

"Then thou didst not know that the hand of the princess is offered to the first contented man who enters the palace?"

"No, your Majesty; I knew it not."

"Then know it now, and know, too, that thou art the man. To thee I give my daughter, together with half my kingdom. No, no—not a word. Thou deservest her. May you be happy!"

The prisoner, almost dumb with astonishment, almost dazed with joy, knelt and kissed the princess's white hands, then looked into her eyes and said: "Ah, well it is for me that I saw you not until now, for I should have been miserably discontented until you were mine! "

The Frog Prince for coloring

I love old fairytales, don't you? Here is one example of a fun old story about a frog, his princess, and their first kiss. We had to doctor it a bit by adding a few features, and have hopefully done this for your enjoyment.

First, a better frame had to be added, then the banner for the text. We then cleared up a few messes, in order to make a more clear print.

Chocolate Cherry Bonbon Heart Set + Matching Background

At last!
Our series of chocolate heart sets for your visual sweet tooth continues this afternoon with our second set, this time all about chocolates with cherry filling. It's basically the same set as our first one, but with a few changes, including colorway. The marble is from an antique book cover of the Victorian era.
You can expect to see another one upcoming, in a slightly creamier style. 
I'm  especially fond of this particular set, as it was inspired by a Studio affiliate from the Great Plains, who has a real passion for cherries and chocolate.

We hope she won't find herself having too big a craving for her favorite chocolate cherry cordials after seeing this post.

Celebrating Jane Austen All Weekend!

For those of you used to PPS's posting an item or two each time, this will be a departure from the usual.

Please observe the red letter Guidelines located at the foot of this post. Thank you.

Today, American time, is Jane Austen's Birthday, and we'd like to do her world honor by adding a full range of fun images for kids and adults alike to "fussy cut" and play with much like we use paper dolls, but without dressing.
That's right! We have a cast of characters in various outfits, along with a selection of backgrounds (both public and not so public) to add to the fun.
Also expect to see a lovely Regency style lady of some distinction toasting her toes next to a hearth.
I can see dioramas, tableaus, and various fun ways with collage out of this set!
It's taken us a long while to process it, which is why we've not been online as much here of late. We do hope the wait has been worth it for our friends here and abroad.
Not everything has the same format, although we offer several items in our popular Digi PNG format as well as in print style.
So, here they are, our cast of characters, along with a few fun ways of displaying them!

Good Morning, all! It's about 9:30 here at the Studio, and it's time to take a wee break from our month-long Steampunk theme. I'm ready to bring out the colored pencils for this one myself!
Isn't our heroine's expression sweet? And isn't her un-beasted beast a handsome gallant? They're gazing at one another with such tenderness (ah!--young love!). And the garden is so pleasant, it's the perfect backdrop for the scene.
I just love this whole illustration. It came to us in our wanderings over at Wiki Commons, but required a little bit of work before it could be usable for most kids. It's been resized for print, cleared up, and refined a tad bit, just for fun. Hope you'll enjoy its look like I do.
Now. Time for my morning perusal of the yard and garden......

Antique Postcard from Wales (with postmark)

This postcard has a lot of charm and makes me smile. Here is a young officer, probably part of the British Royal Navy, romancing his sweetheart by the sea. The lovely view, with the seagulls floating above the water, is truly refreshing, as is the loveliness of our young lady's person.
On our postage side is evidence of where this postcard came from, as well as where it got sent. Note the somewhat unusual postmark! And the stamp is quite fresh looking, despite its 104 years of age.
We're offering two versions of the illustrated side, along with the same of the postage side. We hope you will find plenty of reasons to use our postcard collection to its best advantage.

18th Century Scenes from Victorian Literature

Thackeray wrote more than one fine novel in his time. We may have him to thank for Vanity Fair or Barry Lyndon, but he also wrote more than one storyline having more to do with our colonies--in pre-Revolutionary War terms, that is. For us, it's a good thing he did, for we now have not only his books to refer to for a good read, but also those masterful illustrations used in depicting each storyline.
We're particularly fond of this one, for it embraces a distinguished era in graceful looking fashions with manners and refinement. Our world today is a busy, whirling mass of new ideas. If we were to step back in time to one of the scenes below, what might our impression be?
For one thing, I'm guessing the smells of body odors and lack of flush toilets could well make us want to retreat--and quickly! ;)
But after that, our fascination with all things of another era would take over.
Just imagine........


For those of you who admire that aged look for use when you collage, we include our usual choices of Black & White or Original Patina.

Knights of the Round Table: Queen Guinivere and Her Sir Lancelot

Here are those star-crossed lovers of King Arthur's Court. Neither of these two people is wearing a smile. I suppose they just wished to be partnered and have Arthur out of the way, and yet both cared how it would look. Shame is a feature to many stories surrounding infidelity. Put two hapless people in the same room, let the stars zap them, and misery might be your end result.
All the same, we think they are truly beautifully done, sad expressions and all. Look at her gown, for example, and his armor. One more reason why I like the illustrative art of the late 1800's.

PPS Color Me™ Pages: a knight's tale

For boys or girls, this would be a fun one. They remind me a little bit of Classics Illustrated, a sort of comic book focussed on fine literature from back in the middle of our last century.
It might be fun to either share your version of this famous tale, or to suggest that a different storyline be made up by the children coloring these sheets.
Written in Jane Austen's time, the story of Ivanhoe is an earlier period novel dating to around 1819. The author was Sir Walter Scott. For more information on both author and book, you can go HERE.
It's a great story for boys, but not every hero in this old timey plot line is of the masculine persuasion. In fact, there is at least one damsel of great courage, if I remember correctly.
Also, there are lessons in bravery, tolerance, religious differences, and good versus evil. Just a bit too advanced or lengthy for your average young reader. For those interested, you can read the plot line HERE and study notes HERE.
Each one of these, when printed, will print off at a bit larger than 6" by 9", with some border left for the child's name, the date, etc on your average 81/2" by 11" sheet.
