Women's Shoes of 1900

This is a re-post of a prior offering at this blog, the links for which are no longer available.
Aren't these fun to look at? Each one says something about women's shoes of the very late Victorian era as it was in the year 1900. I had to choose from dozens to make this Collage Set for you. I also improved and tidied up the looks of each shoe with background. This is actually an older post that I could not find a proper link for owing to technical difficulties. I found the image in my files, and have added it to storage for you via my Download link below.

Please see the red Guidelines at the foot of this post. Thank you.

Sapphire Blue September Book Arts Set

The second of 2 September Book Arts posts...

...before I go on a bit of a health hiatus for a while here at the Studio.

The month of September's gemstone is the Sapphire. I chose to use the differing tones in the average sapphire as the inspiration for this set.

Please respect my copyrights and follow the red letter Guidelines listed at the foot of this post. Thank you.

The set requires 2 circle punches, one in the 1 inch size, the other in the 1/2 inch size. For some examples of how I like to suggest that people might use my sets, please follow this link HERE and look for the Display.

September Set: "Black-Eyed Susans"

The first of 2 September Book Arts posts...

...before I go on a bit of a health hiatus for a while here at the Studio.

The colors that the end of summer brings can be bright and promising. This set has been inspired by the flower known as the "black-eyed Susan." I love that pleasant blend of golden yellow with a deeper orange, don't you? Some "Susans" come in a variety of colors, but I prefer this orange-y yellow the best.

Free Cinderella Coloring Page

Cinderella in one of her quieter moments, feeding the little birds who've come to pay her a visit.

This is a favorite story for many people. I love the old style hearth that's big enough to sit in. The whole setting is really wonderfully done. Though I've seen it in a number of spots online, I thought I'd offer my own version for coloring or tinting. I think this project would work best using colored pencils, but the choice is yours, of course. Don't you simply love her shoes?

A Thank You Post for Dorthe

Dorthe Hansen is a Danish artisan with an eye for detail within design. She is also one of my favorite bloggers.
Recently, she very kindly shared some of her work using an envelope of my design. I am thrilled with how she's chosen to use one of my ATC envelopes (from this post HERE). Dorthe's work stands out to my eyes as being special anyway, but it's an added bonus to see how she's used my envelope along with one of my color coordinated postage buttons for one of her pieces.

Dorthe is a Design Team Member of "That's Crafty!", and whose work has been featured in Simply Neutrals Tuesday. It's easy to see why her work must be so desirable. She lavishes very careful consideration on each and every detail. She knows how to blend neutral tones with more colorful ones. Some of my favorite designs by her use only neutral tones. Building layer upon layer, she likes to draw everything together into one story of her own making. Some of her work reminds me of delicately decorated pastries, each one unique.

She and I both appreciate the beauty of handmade lace, buttons and trims. There is something truly evocative of times past in such pretty items, isn't there? Dorthe's pretty works are loaded with old lace, buttons and other treasures. Perhaps that's one of the many reasons why I've always enjoyed visiting her blog.

Dorthe has informed me of her choice of materials along with how she's made use of my envelope within her designs. She writes: "I use the envelopes for my tiny tags created with fabric, finding one suitable in colors, for what I made.
Sometimes they are longer, but then I just let them stick out on top, I will send you a photo ."

Here are her 3 photos of one of her projects. I really like how she's used my envelope with its matching button.

Isn't this a nice gift for me to share here?
:)

If you'd like to visit her blog, Den Lille Lade, to see the rest of her very pretty work, you may follow the link located in her name at the top of this post or you may follow this link HERE. There is a lot to see at her blog, so be prepared to be tempted to linger if you go there.

My thanks to Dorthe for her generous gesture!
Happy Creativity!

Victoria and Her Family at the Beach

Mercy and her husband, Tom have invited Victoria to join them on holiday at the seashore.

The proud new papa of one still sports his fatherly mustache while wearing the grey stripe bathing costume that we're so accustomed to seeing him in.

As for both Mercy and Victoria, this year the two cousins will be wearing the very latest in swimwear. Most women then tended to wear something on their heads in order to cover their hair, but not our two young Victorian women! Both have appointments with a hairdresser for later in the afternoon. By then, both will have changed clothes following bath time. After that, everyone is looking forward to a casual teatime in their family suite at the hotel with the baby, when it will be Nanny's evening off to visit a friend.

As for Mercy and Tom's new baby, the little one is still a bit young to be out of doors all day long. We are allowing Mercy to have a nice, relaxing afternoon swim. This is her family's first chance at a holiday since the arrival of the baby in March. The baby's new skills have grown very recently to include rolling over. This caused much excitement, as all were present for that special moment.

It's Nanny's turn to look after the little one for the afternoon today, especially as it is now nap time. Then it will be time for a promenade using a fancy stroller that was called a perambulator (we called them baby buggies here in the U.S.). For more about the baby, you'll have to wait for a later post. That will keep you guessing, won't it?
:)

Meanwhile, it's grownup swimming fun for all three of the members of this Victorian family.

No. 3 Swirly Kaleidoscope Button Alphabet

Time once more to use that 1 inch circular punch or cutter again as my series of Button Alphabets continues with this next Kaleidoscope design.

I thought this newest design Set of my colorful alphabets would expand people's color choices a bit as the colors are a bit different.

Please respect my  copyrights and do follow the red letter Guidelines located at the foot of this post. Thank you.

This more vivid set I think could add some real zing to just about any project. This is my third version in the Kaleidoscope Button Alphabet Series.

As long as the numbers hold steady or otherwise continue to build for my 1 inch Button Alphabets, I will continue to offer a new version now and then, possibly weekly -- that is, until I run out of ideas for them.  Lolz

Please note that these are totally unique, and completely of my own creation. Fun though it may be, it still takes a while to develop such ideas until they become workable and usable. These literally have taken months of my spare time work. They'll have my copyright from this time forward.
Thank you for respecting my rights as the artist holding my own copyrights. I would hope that everybody does the same for all creative source material makers.

One Inch Button Alphabet in Sepia

Get out that 1 inch circle shaped paper punch! This Antique Button Alphabet is a Plush Possum Studio (or PPS™) exclusive.

I've been a collector of buttons of all sorts since my mother was first teaching me to sew. This later grew into my collecting antique needlework notions in adulthood, too. In other words (and in case you had never noticed lolz) - I am a lover of fasteners, buttons in particular.

This is a Plush Possum (or PPS™) Exclusive. Please respect my copyrights by following the red letter Guidelines listed at the foot of this post. Thank you!

I began by making 2 color coordinated Antique Button Alphabets for my Rainy Day Spring Book Arts Set, HERE

That was last month's biggest project. I'm going to take it easy this week by playing with changing a few colors instead of being ambitious. The first result is this one. I have to say, I think that it might do well for antique style designs using old photos, etc. - or perhaps even for Steampunk themed artistry.

This pretty, clear color way sort of reminds me of a nice, soothing cup of tea, too, or perhaps of a "clearie" antique toy gaming marble (but without any bubbles from being handblown).

I'd love to see what some of my guests are making using the supplies I've been offering. Please let me know if you'd like to share something here. I'll be more than happy to feature any work in a new post along with any links you may provide to where you blog, etc. and then post about it at G+ for us both.

There are soon to be more color ways and even patterns using this button design, so please do keep watching for the next designs. I am playing and having more fun than a barrel full of monkeys using this button idea!
:)

Happy Creativity!

As Promised: Shabby Chic Accessories

This project began with an antique tissue paper page that was loose within the covers of an antique book about butterflies.

It looked so forlorn at first, and yet somehow every wrinkle, crease and tear informed me that there was something I would be doing with them someday.

Please acknowledge my copyrights by always crediting my work back to this blog, and please do follow the red letter Guidelines located at the foot of this post. This is a share-alike post of freebies that are not to be sold by anyone, even when altering has been done. Thank you.

It has taken years for this journey from a book sale at a library till today. From 2004 till now, I've had many challenges to face as an artist, including learning enough Photoshop techniques in order to make it work well enough for me. The book itself resides on a shelf and is seldom opened due to its frailty, but I love knowing that it's still around. Somebody has to give tattered old books a loving new home, and I knew at the time that it was my turn to be the one.

The page view ratings for the original Stationary Set (found HERE) were a sign to me that the public might go for a few of the matching accessories I'd promised to make. The download offers a chance to create using both the pages I've already published here along with matching Labels and Photo Corners. All of this has taken time, so please respect my wishes as to copyrights. I'd appreciate it. Let's share and share alike, shall we?
:)

For a look at what the same Photo Corners in other colors look like when in use, you may visit an earlier post of mine HERE.

Rainy Day Spring Set

"April showers bring May flowers" is a very old rhyme which is the theme of this brand new Set.

The Set below is complete with matching Accessories such as Photo Corners and Button Alphabets in 2 colors. My next post will offer two further free downloads. These could be used in gifts or cards for Mother's Day as well as for year round creative fun.

For Personal Use Only
This is not a set to use in anything you make that is to be for sale.
The reasons are as follows:
Parts of this set must not be sold for certain legal reasons. Unless you have purchased a license from the digital brush designer, Mel Rodicq Creative, the Fancy Edges patterning used by me for this set may never be sold under any circumstances. (For more information, please follow the link, HERE) Those parts include the Trim (located at the top of the Download) and the Backgrounds (for those, please follow this link HERE
Everything else you see here is 100% mine, none of which I am offering to be used in items that are for sale. This is a Special Set. The digital brush designer whose free brushes I've used for this project has copyrights, too. Please respect all copyrights listed and follow the red letter Guidelines listed in this post. Thank you.

The illustration that inspired this new Set is from Victorian times when crinolines, petticoats and decorated bonnets were in fashion. The three girls are sheltering from a retreating rain storm under one very large umbrella. They seem happy in each others' company, don't they? I've chosen the three colors that were featured most often within the illustration in the other Downloads. Note how there are two colors of trim, along with their matching buckles, plus two 1 inch buttons and two 1/2 inch buttons in the first Download. The same buttons I've used in my new 1 inch Button Alphabets (same colors).

For the Alphabets, you will need only a 1" diameter circular paper punch or cutter. For the rest, a 1/2" diameter one should be sufficient. As for the Bonnet Badge, it is 2 inches in width. Perhaps a circle cutter would work better for that item if hand snipping using your scissors wouldn't be your choice.

The entire Set is a PPS Exclusive, and that includes my new Bonnet Badge that can be made into a sticker or decal or else collaged as is onto your surface of choice. Everything has my copyrights, so you mustn't sell anything you see here, even if it is altered by you or someone else. This protects my copyrights and at the same time allows you to have my stock to use for free.

Posted below in order of appearance, is the first Download, followed by the Accessories.

The matching Background Downloads, one in Pink and one in Blue, will be offered in the next post. You may follow the link HERE for both (Please see the red letter Guidelines and Credits there as the same rules apply to both the Backgrounds and this set. thank you).

#ATCAD2017 7th and Final Post for ATC Freebies Week

This last post is all about playing with the framing of Artist Trading Cards.

This project began with a piece of ephemera I found in my travels but that required many changes before it could be presentable. It really was a mess to start with!

Please respect my copyrights and follow the red letter Guidelines listed at the foot of this post. Thank you.

Three of these frames have been derived from a single bit of online ephemera, that of an old menu with a window cut in its front page. I found it in the digital collections of www.nypl.com, but this was quite a while ago. Since that point, it lay buried in amongst a load of other ephemera files I had found here and there. Today, it finally gets its chance to shine. From an artistic standpoint, these might be sandwiched, as it were, between layers, leaving something peering from their diamond shaped windowpanes and with other things overlaying them. It could be fun!

The remaining three frames were self generated using Photoshop processes and features in my old and handy PSE8 (I know - who knew anything so outdated could continue to be so useful?). I went for simplicity along with narrowness and vividness of color with those three. Very challenging to get each differing one to look right with the initial trio. These frames may be merely printed onto card stock and finished without cutting into them, but they may also be cut to resemble physical frames. Such cuts need to be carefully done, of course. Perhaps either a trusty X-acto Knife or extra careful use of a good cropping station will do for such a process.

#ATCAD 2017 ATC Freebies Week Day 5

Today's Set has 2 downloads, one for just the ATC backgrounds (set of 6) the other for the matching 2 Envelope Set with Accessories.

My design inspiration this time is Antique textiles (fabrics). The one is red damask (a jacquard woven-in patterned fabric in all one color), while the second is a quiet and neutral toned embroidered net lace.

Please observe all copyrights by following the red letter Guidelines located at the foot of this post, just below Digital Brush Credits. Thank you.

As before, both Envelopes are accompanied by custom made button fasteners and labels. It was fun for me to design this set to be half bold and half quiet in color. The matching ATC Backgrounds are ready to be embellished however you choose.

All buttons for this week's collection are 1 inch in diameter. I recommend that card stock be your paper of choice for both downloads.

#ATCAD 2017 ATC Freebies Week: Day 4

Still more to come for ATC freebies Week here at PPS.

This time, I've taken my inspiration from 2 antique wallpapers. One has the "distressed" and shabby look, while the other one looks as lively as the day when it first came off the roll.

Please observe all Credits and copyrights shown below and do follow the red letter Guidelines listed just below those credits near the foot of this post. Thank you.

As with Wednesday's post, I've included matching labels and fastener buttons. All buttons are designed to fit either 1" circle paper punches or the 1" setting on an adjustable circle cutter.

What a fun assignment I gave myself recently! Once I'd made the ATC Backgrounds Set (shown second, below), I knew that I'd want to play some more with the two papers I'd chosen. That was actually what got me started on making new ATC Envelopes to match for this week long project in the first place.

Springtime ATC Freebie Week Day 3

Today's Set is comprised of 2 separate downloads.

As resident artist here (so to speak), this has really been a fun challenge for me, sort of an assignment I have given to myself. I'd like to recommend using card stock if you choose to print them. I love comments and would enjoy knowing what my visitors think of this set.

Please respect all copyrights here, my own and others' included, by following the red letter Guidelines located at the foot of this post. Thank you.

This time around, I am taking inspiration from old or antique books. I have been an avid collector of such items for years. The hand marbled end papers of some older books fascinate me. Each one is unique and yet reflects the same basic idea. Some of my more fun projects have been based on old marbled end papers. So much fun!

The first of the 2 downloads displayed below is a current favorite. Offered in both vividly colorful swirls and in quiet, subdued neutral tones, the ATC Pocket set comes with matching smaller accessories. I hope you'll have fun using both kinds.

The second of the 2 downloads is the matching ATC Background card set of 3 each of both styles to match the envelopes and accessories. Please notice the Digital Brush Credits located between the second Display image and my red letter Guidelines. Thanks again!

New Paper Doll Visiting Outfit 2 Ways

Do you recognize something about Victoria's new visiting dress?

Victoria's cousin, Mercy has a maternity smock with the very same sleeves and neckline. Most young Victorian women and girls knew how to sew for their family members, as well as for their homes and for themselves. The two cousins are no different.

Please follow the red letter Guidelines for both versions of this outfit at the foot of this post. Thank you.

Mercy had to adapt their shared pattern in order to make herself a smock with some pretty details. She paired it with a maternity skirt of a matching color way. You may see that outfit by following this link HERE

Victoria's version of the same dress is, of course, not for an expectant mother, but rather for herself. I'm offering this two ways, the first with a frilly short cape tucked under one arm, and the other without the little cape. I've added a purse for the very first time. Previously, she's carried a parasol or perhaps a gift or a Gladstone bag (a kind of large handbag made for traveling). Both outfit downloads include a hat for every hair color.

Fairly soon, I hope to be able to offer a few items about Mercy and Tom's new baby, as well as some new adventures for Victoria and her family.
