Free Paper Doll Travel Set: New Steamer Trunk

Victoria's New Steamer Trunk has arrived!

It is time for Victoria to consider what to take with her on her exciting new tour of parts of Europe.

Please see the red letter Guidelines at the foot of this post. Thank you.

Victoria is going along as a companion to her newly married cousin, Mrs. Mercy De Haven, whose husband, Tom will be in Europe on business as a part of their honeymoon. This will be a unique opportunity for all three young people. For Tom, it is a first chance to handle a few business affairs for an elderly uncle of his who is no longer capable of traveling so far from home. He is learning the business from the ground up, and will be exposed to a number of new opportunities. For Mercy, it will be her very first time seeing all of the sights she read about as a girl. The young couple are pleased to be having Mercy's favorite cousin and very best friend, Victoria, with them.

Victoria is almost too excited to be able to sleep at night sometimes. Her thoughts are dwelling on this new adventure of travels abroad so much that she sometimes lies awake at night imagining each upcoming delight. She will not only get to see many new things, but she will have a wonderful opportunity to learn even more about her chosen vocation as a teacher of the subjects of Geography and foreign languages. She plans to work especially hard on her French and Italian while on this trip.

One of her aunts, Mercy's mother, has offered her the use of an old copy of Baedecker's travel guide to Paris. She is holding the book in her right hand in the outfit + scene below. Despite the fact that this particular edition was printed decades prior to the Paris Exposition and the Grand Opening of the Eiffel Tower of 1889, she has gratefully accepted the volume. This could provide her with some new ideas as to the history of that fascinating French capital city.

Her steamer trunk is designed to be secure at all times. It is really quite heavy, being made mainly of wood and metal with brass hasps and other heavy features. No longer will she have to borrow any trunk from one of her family members. From now on, she will have her very own, personal travel trunk. This is truly a wonderful and lavish birthday surprise from her family.

You will notice how her borrowed suitcase has travel location stickers still stuck to its rugged leather casing. She intends to keep some personal things in this, as it may be handled with greater ease than her very heavy new trunk.

She has chosen a brand new pair of "hygienic" walking shoes, to wear for practical purposes. These button up at the sides and also have slightly lower heels as well as a wider instep than more formal shoes do. Such sensible footwear she will be glad of whenever out on various walking tours with her cousin.

She also will carry her large woven handbag, the one with the leather handles. At the moment, this is standing empty atop the new trunk, alongside her umbrella. This lightweight travel bag made a prior appearance here at the Studio's blog in another travel outfit post which you may find at the following link HERE.

The outfit she is wearing is for summer. Yes, it's true - high necks were often worn year round in Victorian England. Her blouse is made of crisply starched lighter weight fabric trimmed with lace. Her starched linen skirt with the pretty flounces will no doubt be packed for the journey very soon.

Below, guests will also find a specially designed support standard for this outfit with little scene. I recommend the use of card stock for this. I suppose it may be printed onto paper and then glued to some lightweight cardboard. Perhaps a discarded cereal box might work well.

For the outfit, I think that I would try two sheets of paper. Print it to the top one, of course, and then use glue stick glue in order to laminate it to the second, bottom sheet. Card stock might be a bit too heavy for the tabs at the doll's shoulders, after all.

NOTE:
This will be a tricky item to cut out due to the many fine details included in its design. It might be easier for mothers or older siblings to help with this tricky cut. The hair, especially, is bound to be delicate and tricky to cut out. A pair of tiny or manicure style scissors might be helpful.
The hair tab could be tricky this time, for there is no hat.
The doll will look just fine without the hair bow at the back of her hair, of course. It is offered for those who like the details.

One suggestion for the hair with bow might be to do the following:
1) cut both the hair tab and the chosen color of hair away from the printed page, using your scissors carefully. 2) Clear wrapping tape can be used for this next part. Place the Hair Tab and the hair  on a clean, dry smooth surface. Make sure that they will fit together properly. The tape will be stuck to the back of the hair and to the front of the Hair tab, forming a sort of a hinge. It is probably best to test this for fit prior to doing the next step. 3) Next, apply a small amount of glue stick glue to the tiny bit of bow on the Hair Tab. Position the two items till they match in shape. Adhere the two bow areas and press together using fingers. Allow to dry for a little while. Hopefully, the above instructions should work well. If anybody has either a problem or any questions, just let me know in the comment area below.

In just a few short days, it will be the 4th of July and thus time for Victoria to help out at the big Independence Day Gala. You may find her chosen special outfit for the occasion by following the link HERE. But within a very short time after the Gala event, both she and her cousin Mercy will be busy making the final preparations for their long journey to various places in Europe.

Happy Playtime Travels!

Two Tone Paper Doll Gowns

Which will it be, Lilac or Lily?

In this post, there will be two dresses offered from which to choose for Victoria the antique Paper Doll.

Please respect the red letter Guidelines given each post here at PPS, including for this one. Thank you.

Lilies come in a number of colors and shades. They may be white, but with bright green stems and either orange or deep golden centers. They may be a pretty shade of shell pink or even flagrantly orange. I've chosen to go with orange this time, using this as the highlight and accessory color for the Lily version of this two tone gown.

Lilacs likewise come in several different tones, ranging from white all the way to deep, plush purple. I've chosen two of my favorite lilac flower colors for the Lilac version of this gown.

At the very bottom of this post, I am now adding an orchestrated dance tune by Strauss which was played at some dances. It was usually danced more often by the younger crowd. I can see how come!
:)

Happy Playtime creativity!

Gem Tone Paper Doll Birthday Dresses

For Victoria the Free Paper Doll

Here is Set Number One in a series of new dress choices for the slightly more grown up dressing of Victoria the Paper Doll. The very first time that I saw the fashion illustration used for this new paper doll dress, I was not at all certain that I'd be able to make it work for this doll. However, with some work, I have redesigned it to fit the New Look version of the doll and also added new colors to suit her various hair color choices.

Please read and follow the red letter Guidelines at the foot of this post. Thank you.

Happily, after a certain amount of work, it finally fits the doll and also looks a bit better than it first did. Each one of the dresses below has its own matching gemstone brooch pinned to the bodice, just below the lacy neckline. I've made the dancing shoes to match each one as well. You'll note how it has a little more mature quality to its looks than the one which she was given for her 19th Birthday last year. It is also the very latest style for her 20th year celebration.

For each dress, there are 5 hair colors to choose from, each one with its own feathery decoration at the back in a matching color. She also has a matching dance card fan with its very own tiny pencil attached through a sleeve - like loop along one edge.

The Story:
As mentioned in a previous post, Victoria's 20th birthday will soon be occurring in the month of July. She is becoming a little more mature and a little more wise with each passing year. Just this last spring, she passed all of her exams quite readily. Her teachers have suggested that she become a teacher herself after some further study.

She will want to travel first, of course, and to learn more about the world and all of its various cultures. She longs to teach her favorite subjects, foreign languages and geography! Her grandmother is entirely supportive of such an excellent career choice. Special arrangements have already been made for Victoria to travel this summer on her own modest and more updated version of the European Grand Tour.

Her newly married cousin, Mrs. Mercy DeHaven, will soon finally be able to take an extended honeymoon trip abroad with her spouse, Mr. Tom DeHaven. The DeHavens have offered to chaperone young Victoria, to give her a separate stateroom aboard ship, as well as rooms in the same hotels in which they are to be staying, and to take her with them along the way. Tom will be there for business purposes during part of the time that they are to be abroad, and so Mercy will have the companionship she'd lack without such a special family guest as her favorite young cousin along.

In the meantime, just prior to Victoria's birthday party, many things are to happen. She must add a few new items to her travel accessories for the journey, including walking shoes and a new steamer trunk, among other things. The steamer trunk is to be a birthday present from the family. This will truly be a journey worth remembering!

But more on her travels will be offered here during the coming weeks and months. Let's enjoy her birthday party first, shall we?

Happy Playtime Creativity!

Old Illustrated Bible Page of Psalm 23

This is my first new item here at PPS in weeks.

I'm sorry to have had to be away so much. I really miss my little hobby of keeping this blog. There are family concerns, etc. keeping my mind and time away from offering anything new here. I am offering this new illustrated page for free, but please respect my copyrights. I have made it look nicer as well as fresher in appearance. I've also altered its size so that it will print for guests of this blog. One fourth of an inch is the narrowest margin size for this one.

Happy Sunday creativity!

Spring Set: Rose Borders and Butterflies

Let's celebrate Spring some more using rose blossom borders and matching accessories!

I love to garden. It never ceases to amaze me just how much I do love to watch green, growing things blooming. I can recall falling in love with a sweet neighbor's pansy patch when I was a very small child, so this is a life long passion of mine.

Please observe the red letter Guidelines at the bottom of this post. Thank you.

This little set began as a sample page from an antique book of late Victorian home decor designs. It has required much time, work and trial and error failure. Each attempt brought a new lesson as to how to make older, less attractive things look nicer and neater. In fact, it was a little bit like improving a garden patch!

I'm offering two sizes of the same rosy border, along with the butterfly badges, plus the garden bench (this time in a soft springlike green) along with some other accessories. The garden bench is a genuine favorite of mine. I do admire pretty rustic wood garden furnishings!

This will be the one day that I can find enough time for posting anything different here at PPS for a while. Too many responsibilities keep drawing me away from doing art of all sorts. There is one project that is on hold, and that one is at the second blog, Rose's Art Garden, where I can simply relax, make messes, and play. However, at the first blog (this one) I have too little time to keep up properly with everything today. Perhaps by the time next month comes around, it will become a little easier for me to continue on as before.

Thank you for stopping by! I do hope you are enjoying every bright spring day with your ~

Daisy Chain Spring Garden Set + Backgrounds

An antique Victorian embroidery pattern is the basis for this new set.

This blog post's entire contents have copyrights. Please respect the rights of every artist whose work has made this project possible. Guidelines are located at the foot of the post. Thank you.

Did I mention before how much I love to garden? Or that I enjoy almost every color of green that nature shows me? Or that I also like a good, deep, earthy chocolate brown color as well? (I know that most of you would already know how very much I like antiques!)

I've combined all of those fun things into one set. This time, the pocket (or pouch) has a whole new shape for guests to play with. I chose not to make any of the basis for it look too perfect, as I really like that old fashioned appeal as well. Despite its Victorian charm, I confess that I have added just a touch of Art Deco appeal for the fun of it, as you will see in the first image (Example display) below.

Please observe the red letter Guidelines to this post, found underneath the last image shown in the post. Thank you.

This took a lot of work. The initial image had a few quality issues, and needed to be remade entirely before it would fit the idea I kept having.

For the background pattern, as well as for the main trim, I used a copyrighted digital brush set by MelsBrushes (to find the site, guests can follow the link HERE).

The new pouch shape comes in 2 parts, with one base and one top. Both have flaps. (I guess we could even say that even my pocket flap has its own flap! LOL) These will naturally need to be folded under prior to gluing to the chosen surface. The buckle was added to the opening cover or top bit in order to simplify the construction process for you, but I have also included the same buckle separately with accessories.

July 2017 Update: My thanks to All Free paper Crafts (just click on their badge, upper left of this blog to see what else they feature) for promoting this set of downloads.
:)

The Backgrounds come 4 ways this time. The chocolate brown one comes with either white or green daisies and the green one comes with either brown or white daisies. All of it is meant to follow the same theme and to mix and match or contrast.

I could easily see one of the 4 Backgrounds being used for a lining to the new Pouch style Pocket. Also, I could see this set used with other sets from elsewhere.

Actually, I could even see a tiny hand bag being sewn using both pouch parts, but printed onto an iron on fusible material of some sort. The reverse side of such a little bag could be one of the backgrounds below. It might look really cute! If anyone chooses to try such an idea, I do hope that they will let me all know about it so that I can add their pictures here. That would be a lot of fun for me!
:)

Happy Spring and Thank You for stopping by with your~

Paper Doll Room 3

Victoria's Aunt and Uncle Lacey do have a very grand place to call home, don't they?

Aunt and Uncle Lacey have invited the entire family to spend all of Sunday afternoon with them. Victoria's new dress will look bright and pretty alongside the highly decorative furnishings in their very stately home.

Please see the red letter Guidelines beneath the Download section of this post. Thank you.

There are two old fashioned forms of dress in the Display picture below. The most obvious one is worn by Victoria herself. The second one is in the grand old Conservatory in the distance. The statue which is on display wears a simply cut Greek or Roman style dress. Many refined homes during the Victorian era had statues in them. This one is kneeling in an indoor garden. Such gardens were often called "conservatories" because they acted like greenhouses by conserving (or preserving) exotic plants of all sorts.

For instructions for assembly of this room, please follow the link HERE.

This particular finished Room measures 19 inches across by 14 inches high, without the white margins. I recommend leaving around one half inch white margin space on every outside side, but trim away the ones where the 4 pieces will meet at center.

Below you will find the Display first, followed by 4 separate Download links, each one labeled as its position in the 4 piece "puzzle."
Margins in the downloads are wider than the average. Please measure carefully when cropping and do follow the tips and hints listed via the instructions link above.

I've waited for months before adding this new room to the collection. It's nice to finally reveal it!

Special New Paper Doll Dress

Victoria's pretty new best Sunday dress

I'd been putting off doing any new paper doll things for a while. I think we all needed a bit of a change for a few weeks, don't you?
;)

Please observe the red letter Guidelines at the very bottom of today's post. Thank you.

This special dress is a gift from Grandmother Lacey. Victoria is very pleased and grateful for this new addition to her wardrobe. She is especially pleased with the floral pattern in the fabric of the dress.

There is to be a splendid dinner at her Aunt and Uncle Lacey's this coming Sunday. For her younger cousins there will be games and playful music. If it rains, the children's gathering will take place inside, in the very grand Conservatory, while the adults will enjoy the day in the dining and music rooms. Cousin Mercy's new husband, Tom has promised to bring along a new camera he has very lately purchased.

I've included all 5 different hair colors, each one with its own copy of the outfit's hat.

This outfit did require hours of work before it could be made to look presentable enough. For one thing, the image I had to work with was flawed and spotty in places. For another, the fit would not work right at first.

Note
This outfit has a number of very tricky cutting areas. My suggestion is to reinforce the 3 grey tabs on the dress with clear tape, such as gift wrapping tape, at the back prior to cutting. Also, adult or elder sibling fingers might find this project less challenging, especially at the shoulder line. The same might be said for the hat.
It is best to not cut away the blank spaces located under either arm and between arms and torso. (That's because this was a fairly tricky fit, and the sleeves could not be altered to fit perfectly without ruining their look.)

The Hat Tab may be attached as mentioned in other paper doll outfit posts. That is, start at the very tip top with a thin line of glue stick glue when attaching the tab to the back of the hat. Add more glue bit by bit only as necessary until the hat will fit the doll's head.

For anyone new to the PPS Paper Doll line, there is a category in the bar right below the banner above. That page contains some links that you might find useful.

Thank you for stopping by with your
Happy Creativity!

Antique Bicycling Graphic

Ouch!

Hasn't everyone who's ever gone riding had at least one bad spill?
I can recall one fairly bad one for me, years ago, involving a patch of gravel and a sore arm afterward.

I might have found "Elliman's Universal Embrocation" of use as a product, although I sincerely doubt it.
:)

Offered in both black and white and sepia looks, this one is in the Public Domain. I really had to do very little to it, just a little clean-up work. I am keeping it simple for a while around the Studio.

Guests who enjoy paper dolls can also find a paper doll cycling outfit of the same era by following this link HERE.
