Garden Set: A Late Summer Butterfly

Or, a "pocket full of posies," as the old rhyme says.

I ran across this set of pockets when I was looking for something else in the Studio's files recently. I've decided to finish it and to also add two styles of the same patterned background.

Please notice and mind the copyrights and red letter Guidelines at the foot of this post. Thank you.
Note: Background Photoshop Lace Pattern is by babypink (name is a link) over at Brusheezy. The copyright for the Lace pattern (entitled, "Spetts") is as follows: "This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License. You may redistribute, remix, tweak, and build upon this work even for commercial reasons, as long as you credit this artist by linking back."

The basis of this pocket duo and their accessories and backgrounds is, of course, a lovely old painting of a basket full of flowers and a charming butterfly on a windowsill. It is a favorite still life painting of mine, almost in my Top Ten list. I hope you will enjoy it too.

The items in the Set barely fit the dimensions for the average copier paper. Consequently, the borders are very narrow, a mere 1/4 of an inch. If your printer has the capability to print without any borders or margins, I'd recommend using such a setting. Otherwise, the narrower the better for this particular Set.

I'd also like to recommend card stock or stiff paper such as matte photo paper. This will make your pockets and accessories last a lot longer. The flaps or tabs, of course, are meant to be folded under, tucked out of sight and glued to your chosen surface. Double sided tape might be wise, or perhaps Uhu brand glue stick glue.

The Lace backgrounds I have made to work in two separate directions: Horizontal and Vertical. The Horizontal one I have featured in the suggested use Display, shown first below. Both colors come in both directions.

Let's enjoy the last few weeks of real summertime with our
Happy Creativity!

Butterfies in Flight

From an old full color plate illustration.

I was in the mood for something light, airy and pretty. I hope this suits your mood, too.

Please see the Guidelines below for more information. Thank you.

I've cleaned and cleared this one up a little, plus brightened it somewhat, as it was looking a bit drab and tired. And butterflies need to be full of light and loveliness, don't they?
:)

Seed Packet Garden Set

Shabby can be beautiful at times....

...so I've done less to the looks of the lovely old seed packet used for the design than I normally would have. I think that it already shows its age beautifully.

Please see the red letter Guidelines at the foot of this post. Thank you.

Sometimes it's fun to mix colors and to play with new ideas all at once. I've used a pink from the floral bouquet of the seed packet, and then added a soft cream color to the trims that is also in the same bouquet.

As usual with all of my Spring Garden Collection sets, there is a background included, as well as my favorite dragonfly, a sweet old celluloid button from my own collection, and a buckle (also my own) in 2 colors and 2 sizes.

Shown first below is an Example Display picture of just a few of the many possibilities for such a set. Other accessories will surely soon follow, so be on the lookout for new items each week.

Happy Creativity!

A Pocketful of Happy Ideas

Ready for Spring ~ a new Book Artist Set

I like the young lady's smile, don't you? Can her mind be turned to thoughts of the first spring breeze? Or could it be love? Or could it be that we will never know for sure?

This time, all margins are 1/4 inch wide (on all 4 sides) and at their narrowest points, so it's best to change your printer settings accordingly.

Please observe all Credits and red letter Guidelines at this blog, especially as they often will differ from post to post. Thank you.

Below please note the display of the full set, minus the silk covered buttons. This set has its very own color coordinated background page, in a separate download. It was designed to work well against a number of other colors, including white and cream as well, but guests may find that they already have other colors in their collections that will work very nicely, too.

This set has been designed to work for book pages of all sorts as well as either in or on cards and other projects. You can expect more sets in other themes and color ways shortly, some of them in other hues of pink and rose, so it might be wise to pencil the set's name onto the back of the Background, just in case. I'd file them separately, in fact, in my own home computer first.

Also offered is a separate download of the very same set, reversed or flipped around to face in the opposite direction. It is always nice to have choices, isn't it?

Note:
Some trimming might be required at the ends of the pocket's flaps before you tuck them under when gluing, depending upon how they are used. I thought it would be better to create them as wide as they are to allow for some custom trimming. Anyone can trim, but most of us simply cannot make too narrow a flap any wider than it already is.

Another Hopefully Helpful Hint:
Have you ever tried using MicroGlaze from Judikins? It is a really wonderful item to use in book arts, I find. I've used it to seal surfaces, to prevent pages from sticking together, and so on. It's got multiple uses. Tim Holtz now has his very own customized version of this very useful product, too. A very tiny amount does the job, so don't be fooled by the smallness of the jar it comes in. It's been worth every penny that I paid for it since I bought it, and I'm not done using all of my first jar yet.

I hope that you'll enjoy this new playful set with your family and friends while you share your
Happy Creativity!

Three Muses Challenge: "Postmark Paris"

We are having such fun today with the Three Muses' latest challenge! This will be the second foray into trying one of their challenges, and it's so much fun, we'd like it to go on all weekend!

Please respect all artists' copyrights and follow my Guidelines at this blog, including those below this image. Thank you.

Below, you'll see the result. This is actually a Rose McGuinn Original, and therefore has copyrights, everyone. Please keep that in mind for us, won't you? After all, anything not marked with our copyright here is totally free for our readers to use, no strings attached. But when it comes to any Artwork for display here, as in one of the challenges or an ATC with our Blissfull friends, we ask that you neither copy them for your own personal use nor publish them anyplace at all. That includes for ATC trades as well as ephemera, etc.
That being said, here is the copyrighted work on display.
Happy Creativity!

Victorian Botanical Art c. 1888: a Pitcher Plant

Harper's Readers are among my favorites for a feel of old time learning. In many cases, I think they were very intelligently compiled. Our chosen outtake for today's post is a lovelier one than I can remember, for the artwork is tasteful and refined.
Such engravings are harder to come by nowadays, and if you find one, it's best to snap it up for keeps. We did this about a year and a half ago at a local book sale. So now we're able to share all that wonderful ephemera with our readers! That's even more fun than finding the books we often refer to as "The Stash" or "The Archives."
We are, as per our usual habit here on PPS, including both our Original and Upgraded Looks. We hope you'll find plenty of uses for both.
Happy Creative Weekend, all!
Rose

FYI: We only pull apart things that won't otherwise scan for you, and then only as our team determines there is more value in a picture's use than in the book's overall value in its entirety. The book we are using for this post was a "second" in that it had been misbound, was tattered and had some writing in some of its margins. As a book, it wouldn't fetch more than $5 or so. (I think we paid all of $1.50 for it at that sale--a nice deal for our collectibles stash) But, as an archive addition, it makes for invaluable usage, wouldn't you say? ;)

Antique Butterfly Photography

With the return of spring comes new life. Nowhere do we see this more beautifully played out than in the world of the butterfly. Their language is clear. It is all about beauty.
I like to think of this old book as one of the Studio's best assets, as it may provide more than one post that may be usable and pretty all at the same time.
Old style photography wasn't as clear as our own, right? Yet, do I detect a subtlety to a wing's back, the curve of its shape? Really, the contents of this book by W.J. Holland are too wonderful to be thought of as out of date or unacceptable, even though they are well over 100 years old. They were first shot in 1898. Imagine that! It truly is astounding when you think about it.
Here's to the world of the butterfly, then!
And happy Creativity, everybody!
Rose
NOTE: These pictures might appear less than attractive to your screen.
We are concerned they might appear that way even if enlarged.
In our studio, they seemed great until posted here. So please do not worry they might not turn out all right if printed.
On the other hand, as computer systems vary, and from browser to browser, we ask that anyone experiencing a low quality performance from us here please contact us as soon as possible.
We'd hate to think we hadn't done our level best for you all.
Thank You.

Fresh, Bright Butterflies

These are from the same book as before, circa 1902. The colors are old fashioned, as manufacturing processes  were less accurate with color representation, but I still very much enjoy the look.
Included today are two of our favorites, as culled from the background. Makes me long for spring all the more!

Free Butterfly Ephemera

{Coming SOON: New Upgraded Versions!}The beauty of a butterfly captures attention on a cold wintry day.  Maybe it's the longing for spring air and green things growing, or maybe the colors and brightness make us dream of wide open spaces. These images come to us out of the 1901 reprint of W.J. Holland's "The Butterfly Book," a masterful volume full of sage advice on the study of butterflies of North America. There are many other lovely images like this one in our current collection, but we hope to keep updating our files over time.
Included with the usual imagery, we've added an enhanced version of one of our favorites from this page. We hope you'll find lots of uses for these images.
Happy Creativity!
