GMAIL SECURITY ISSUES

Dear Online Friends & Family:
I am sorry to say we are experiencing a technical difficulty which has turned out to be partly a gmail issue, and partly not.
There are those whose names and other info were in my inbox at the time it was robbed yesterday during the late evening hours.
The file that was stolen includes some personal info which was not as carefully guarded as perhaps it could have been, but it wasn't anything so serious as what others tell me they've had rifled through in their own gmail accounts.
Whoever it is perpetrating such a crime is surely busily trying to access any of the files people keep within every email account currently communicating to PPS's gmail account.
Which means all our friends may want to take warning and change their passwords, give gmail their home and/or cell phone numbers for further security, and so forth.
This may lead to further problems for those of you who also keep records using email and/or whose home computers keep on file things which may then be accessed while email windows/accounts are open/actively in use.
I wanted to warn everyone right away, as soon as I began to notice how this had occurred.

I've just been on the phone with Apple, where I got some of the best service I think you'll find anywhere. We ran systems checks on every portion of the Studio's workhorse computer, and while nothing came up, I can't help wondering if I've only been lucky this time.

As this excellent member of Apple's Apple Care staff and I chatted (running disk utilities checks can take time), he divulged he'd also been the victim of a similar crime with his own gmail account.

Friends of PPS had better be warned their gmail and other email accounts may be robbed within the next day or so. Anyone connecting with us on a regular basis via my own personal email may get an unwanted visitor, as these creeps know how to jump from account to account using technology we don't understand well enough, or they'd have been stopped long since.

We do not bank online at this office; however, others whose names and email addresses were in my gmail account during the theft of my one and only serious file there may well do their banking and blogging via a single account with gmail or yahoo, etc.

Please be warned: Identity thefts may occur before there's time to stop the Phishing mentioned in this post. It's best to shut down our computers completely overnight AND not before we have LOGGED OUT of each of our various fun sites, accounts, and so on. That would include sites like our beloved Bella Creations ning, through which any Phisher-man might access and re-access people's private funding and/or private lives.

We are sending our friends this post in an email (that is, anyone we've been corresponding with) although it may have already been too late.

Please be careful, people. When your IT team tells you even they've been experiencing problems due to phishing (also known as hacking into people's emails and using their private information to entrap others, etc.), you know there's a real problem to guard against.

So be careful, think smart, blog with caution, sign out of every account when shutting down for the night, and make sure your online security is working as it should. (Even close windows between tasks/sites. Important!)

We all had better change any passwords right away and then keep changing them periodically for weeks, just to be certain.

Let's batten down the hatches, people!
Let's not let them get the better of you and me!
Rose & Co

Dear Rose,
I'm soooo sorry about all this mess...
I've a bit understood the problem;
& I wish all is fine now.
Is it possible to use Mozilla Thunderbird with Apple?
Thunderbird permit to have all your E-mails into your computer & not into a satellite somewhere in the stratosphere...
I think of you & thank you so very much for your general warning...
Kisses from France.

Sim:I haven't tried Mozilla Thunderbird before, and will look into it. Thank you for sharing your thought about that. I'm not sure it does work the same way for an Apple, but there's a chance it could.
We have to protect ourselves and each other, as each hacker can really make our lives more difficult.
I hope for the better, and am confident I just missed the worst that could have happened.
Hugs to you from the USA!

Hi Sonia! Thank you for coming by!
It meant a lot to us to find you were that interested in our stock to where you'd feature us in a separate post! It was very kind of you to do so!
Love your button! And it was the very least we could do in return for all that kindness.

Gosh, I am so glad I don't use gmail! I only have an account so that I could have my blogs, but I don't get mail there....

Aren't people at MAC amazing? I was on hold for half an hour yesterday, but gosh, they sure are helpful...The weirdest thing happened. When I would pull up a photo on my desktop, it was totally zoomed in...The girl was so helpful and got it straightened out.

I sure hope all will be okay with your account...that is awful--It happened to me with Paypal!!!
XO
Cindy

Oh, Cindy! Not you too!!!
And at PayPal, no less! I shudder to think what this must have meant for you!
And you are so right on! Don't know where I'd be without help from the good folks at Apple Care!
xo
hope it's a good weekend for you!

Hello...my PayPal account just got used and I was debited for 100Euro by some company called Letibit. I have no idea who they are. I have filed a claim with PayPal and have changed my passwords. Now I'm being inundated by spam. Rose how did you originally find out about your probelm?

Mary Ann: I'm so sorry that you became the victim of such a heist! It's really a rotten thing to have happened!
How we became alerted was by two telltale signs:
1.) As we are in the habit of always signing in and out frequently from our combined gmail/blogger account, and already had a strict policy of making certain of having been signed out for the day before closing up shop for the evening, it was a surprise to find that both accounts were OPENED in our absence.
2.) A gmail file went missing.
We at first had assumed it was swiped by the same hacker that got into our gmail. What was later noted was, how it had been TUCKED AWAY into a separate and completely different file, as if to hide it for a later return. Either that, or this person was merely out joy-riding and decided to play tricks.
Now, you must know we NEVER would place one file's contents in with those of another. He actually deleted our file altogether, while saving those contents in the non-related file.
These signs showed me how easliy he moved in for the kill.
Consequently, we are on the alert, and have emptied all files from this gmail acct, along with those of every email account communicating with this one.
Now, if something's that important it must be kept for later on, it gets saved to the computer, encrypted.
I guess we had to learn the hard way.
I do hope PayPal will make good for your benefit.
I personally bank only where they have an anti-ID theft service built right in as an incentive.
Just a thought.
Your bank might perhaps be more helpful than PayPal can--I would not venture a guess.
Do take care
Rose

Sorry--we learned the account had been opened in our absence by its having been left open by the hacker in question.
Hope that makes clearer what really did occur.

Thanks Rose...I was just wondering so future reference:)

Mary Ann: No problem! We need to band together against these creeps!
